Asus R510JX Review: A gaming laptop that performs well at the price of Rs 69,990
is trying to break the mid ranged gaming laptop market and the R510JX is
their weapon of choice. They had only one objective in sights when they
built this laptop, and the word is 'performance'. This laptop performs
like its out to justify every penny the users spends on it. In most
cases the laptop performs exceptionally well, except for the battery
life and speaker quality. We ran it through our test track and this is
what we could make of it.
Display: 15.6" FHD LED Backlit Slim Anti Glare Display
Weight: 2.45 Kg
Battery: 4 cell
Dimensions: 380 x 251 x 31.7 mm
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 (4th Gen) processor

Hard Drive: 1TB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M (N16P-GT)
Graphics memory: 2GB

Out of the box, we quite liked the design. The Asus R510JX comes in black and red streaks on a glossy panel that give it a digitized feel. The trackpad is bordered by a red line as well that distinguishes it from the rest of the black area.
The keyboard is a non-backlit Chicklet keyboard with the lettering in red, which though attractive is hard to work on in dark environments. The LED indicators are on the front left of the laptop. On the right side of the panel users get one USB 2.0 port and the DVD-RW drive. The left side has the two USB 3.0 ports, headphone 3.5mm jack, HDMI, Ethernet and the VGA ports along with the power input.
The fan exhaust is also on the left side of the laptop. They keyboard is placed well and is quite ergonomic. We can say the same for the trackpad as we did not feel tired after prolonged use. Asus has worked hard to keep the sides of the trackpad cool, as most gamers do complain of the burn one feels from the heat of the base panel when gaming.
The display of the laptop creates some true HD images, but lacks a bit when it comes to viewing angles. The speakers are not the brightest. Users get stock ones that come with most laptops. We would have appreciated a better set.
Over that, the battery life is on the lower side too. Under regular usage the laptop's battery lasts for around 2.5 hours, while heavy gaming drains it in a little over an hour. However, this is pardonable because a gaming laptop it is supposed to be plugged in at all times and a gaming headphone should be used with it for best experience. We do not want to be running for the charger and an outlet when playing an intense online multiplayer, do we?
Now we come to the selling point of this laptop, which is the performance of the CPU core units, RAM and the GPU. It showcased above average results on PC Mark 7 with a score of 3,181, but it blasted the scoresheet when we ran 3D Mark Vantage. The Nvidia Geforce 950M fetched 10,430 points on the Asus R510JX.
We played Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on it and there seemed to be some lag while running the game in 'Ultra' settings. But, most of the issues were resolved when we brought the settings down to 'High' and could very well be played without affecting the gameplay at all. We loved every bit of the gaming action on the Asus R510JX.
The Asus R510JX is an ideal mid-ranged gaming laptop that is made keeping the average gamer in mind. The price of the laptop is justified at Rs 69,990 because the competition likes Dell and Lenovo. Most of which are priced higher, providing similar specs. Asus R510JX also has 1 TB of storage that is excellent to store games. We know gamers would want every extra GB they can get, as most games these days hog gigabytes of memory. Overall, Asus R510JX is a nice piece of machine that any budding gamer would like to own.
